The elections were initially set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); the elections governing body in Nigeria, for Saturday, the 16th of February, 2019, but a few hours before the scheduled elections were to start, INEC announced to Nigerians, who had travelled from diverse locations, to their various constituencies, that the elections would be postponed for one week; till Saturday, the 23rd February, 2019.
That day came and the 84 million registered voters trooped to their different Polling stations to vote in one of the most important, yet polarised elections ever to be organised in Nigeria; the most populous country in sub-Saharan Africa.
