Nigeria’s Sultan of Sokoto: Preaches Against Hate and at the Same Time Incites Muslims to Fight.
While speaking at a conference organized by Da’wah Co-ordination Council of Nigeria, the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, encouraged Muslims to fight anybody or group that attempts to stop them from performing their religious obligations.
As reported by DailyPost-Nigeria, he said, “the only thing that will make me to act or ask you to act is only when somebody or a group or some other nations decide to stop us from performing our religious obligations. That is the only way we can fight somebody.”
DailyPost-Nigeria also reported that the Sultan warned Muslim clerics against preaching hate messages. According to the report the Sultan was quoted as saying, “When somebody or a group or some other nations decide to stop us from performing our religious obligations, we must never take laws into our hands. We must not be law officers. We do not do that in Islam…We do not force anybody to join Islam. There is no compulsion in Islam.”
In Nigeria, Muslims, especially Islamic extremists, are known to be the aggressors against Christians and other religious groups; attacking and murdering Christians who refuse to convert to Islam and in some cases simply attacking and killing Christians because of their belief and faith in Jesus Christ. Over the past 5 years, thousands of Christians have been attacked and murdered by Islamic extremists in Nigeria. In fact, due to largely unchecked and unprosecuted deadly acts committed by Islamic Extremists and terrorists such as Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen, Nigeria has become one of the most dangerous places for a Christian to reside.
In the past year alone, Muslims unprovoked, have brutally attacked and murdered thousands of Christians. In addition to the barbaric murders and other atrocities committed by the terrorist group Boko Haram against Christians who are their primary targets (although some Muslims have also been killed by the Islamic Extremists), Fulani herdsmen under the guise of nomadic cattle grazing have continued to conduct terrorist and heinous acts, killing or maiming hundreds to thousands of Christians over many years raping and even killing hundreds of women, and burning churches, especially in the southern part of Nigeria.
Recently, in Niger State, Nigeria, a group of Muslim youths attacked people in a Catholic church telling them that Friday is meant for them alone and that Christians should not pray or worship on a Friday. Also, in a span of a couple of months, two pastors (one in Kano and another in Abuja) were brutally murdered by Islamic zealots; both were unprovoked acts.
Muslims extremists in Nigeria are intolerant of Christians and are blatantly intimidating Christians in an attempt to stop them from practicing their faith. In earnest, the Sultan of Sokoto should be addressing continued violence of Muslims against Christians and other religious groups, and not inciting Muslims to fight anyone, since in reality, no one is stopping Muslims from performing their religious obligations.
