Yes, Nigeria Can Still Be Great Only If...

Daily Post Nigeria published a news article, “Things would have been better if Nigeria did not gain Independence – 99-year-old ex-civil servant laments”. In this article the 99-year old man was reported to have said that he would rather be under the "rulership" of the British colonial power than be in today's Nigeria where everything seems to have gone awry. Yes, Nigeria can still be great only, If we can change our orientation; If we can live a selfless life; If we can put national interest above personal or individual interest; If we can love our country (Nigeria) and love one another; If we can see political offices and appointment as an avenue to serve rather than opportunities to corruptly enrich ourselves and our families at the detriment of others; If we can elect people to serve based on conscience and integrity and make them accountable; If we eliminate the spirit of ethnicity,religious bigotry and tribalism (ethnocentrism); If our laws are respected by the rich and the poor and no one is allowed to live above the law; and If we can take pains to identify and elect good leaders and trust them, then Nigeria will become great!!!
