As reported on June 12 2016 by Vanguard, Nigeria, Retired General Muhammadu Buhari, a renowned dictator and current president of Nigeria, recently ordered the retirement of military officers that are non-Fulani-Hausa, primarily those that are Christians and of Igbo extraction from the South East of Nigeria. Basically, majority of the military officers retired were from the “South East”-and “South-South” parts of Nigeria. Vanguard, Nigeria noted that “79% of those sacked are Christians. 40% are of Igbo extraction. The officers were not given an opportunity to defend themselves.”

Recently, on June 10, 2016, Amnesty International reported that the Nigerian Military deliberately shot at unarmed pro-Biafra protestors killing many. Pro-Biafra protestors are from the South-East of Nigeria.

M. K. Ibrahim, Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, said, “Opening fire on peaceful IPOB supporters and bystanders who clearly posed no threat to anyone is an outrageous use of unnecessary and excessive force and resulted in multiple deaths and injuries. In one incident one person was shot dead after the authorities burst in on them while they slept.” Read more: Nigeria: Killing of unarmed pro-Biafra supporters by military must be urgently investigated

Many Nigerians believe that Nigeria’s President, Retired General Muhammadu Buhari seems unperturbed by the Killing of unarmed pro-Biafra supporters by the military, since his office has not made a concerted effort to probe the actions of the military for killing unarmed civilians.

Many Nigerian Christians fear that as Buhari positions Fulani-Hausa muslims to control all areas of his so-called democratic government, including all security agencies, he is orchestrating his road map for a major “Jihad” against the Northern Christians and non-Fulani-Hausa in the southern part of Nigeria, predominately Christians. Among Muslims, “Jihad” literally means “a war or struggle against unbelievers. In 2001, The Guardian Nigeria reported that Retired General Muhammadu Buhari pledged to commit himself to the full implementation of Islamic law in Nigeria. While Retired General Muhammadu Buhari has denied having such intention since he became the current civilian President of Nigeria, many Nigerians see his blatant appointments of predominantly Fulani-Hausa Muslims as actions which seem to agree more with the statement and commitment he made in 2001, to ensure implementation of the Sharia law in Nigeria.

Nigeria, the most populous nation in Africa, is not a Muslim country. Nigeria is a secular nation. Nigeria’s faith mix consists of Christians, Muslims, other religions, as well as traditional believers, agnostics, atheists and so on. In an article “‘If Nigeria Falls to Islamic Extremists, All of Africa Will Be at Risk’” published in 2014 in The Huffington Post, Joop Koopman wrote that “Just over 50 percent of the people are Christians, who form the majority in southern Nigeria; Muslims account for another 45 percent of the population, largely living in northern Nigeria. There are 30 million Catholics in the country. In 2012, close to 1,000 Christians died because of their faith in Nigeria, according to reports, and Boko Haram is responsible for the deaths of at least 700 Christians in 2013.” These estimates have significantly increased since 2013, also in part due to the delayed focused military response of the former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Largely unrestricted and untouched by Nigeria's security agencies and military now under Retired General Muhammadu Buhari, Fulani herdsman have since continued to massacre innocent citizens in all regions of Nigeria; more recently in Benue, Oyo, Enugu and other States. The most recent massacre of villagers and farmers happened in Nimbo Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
