Showcasing Mrs. Oluchi’s tailoring shop at a market in Enugu, Nigeria. She started her tailoring shop 9 years ago and seems to keep pace with the ever changing dynamics of local fashions. It appears she has been doing quite well. She has loyal customers as well as first timers who were referred to her by others. Mrs. Oluchi doesn’t receive any form of government welfare, assistance or benefits as such help is non-existent in Nigeria. Somehow, she still manages to support her family with the proceeds from her tailoring business.

This story may not seem like much to people, but Mrs. Oluchi’s success in her small tailoring shop is a big deal in a country where between 25 – 40% of young skilled individuals are unable to secure employment. Therefore, Mrs. Oluchi’s successful self employment even at a small scale artisan level means she’s able to feed her family, take care of their health needs and possibly send her kids.
